Can you bet on Formula 1?

Formula 1 is synonymous with speed (more than 300 km/h), adrenaline, competitiveness, luxury...and luck; like the one you can have if you bet with criteria on one of the most popular and media sports in the world. In fact, Formula 1 has an audience of more than 500 million spectators, at the height of major non-annual sporting events such as the Olympic Games or the football World Cup.

In this article, we explain everything you need to know about the most important category in motorsport. We have also prepared a list of the best bonuses offered by F1 bookmakers. All this and much more below.

The history and origins of Formula 1

In the Formula 1 World Championship, all the races held are known as Grand Prix and the entity in charge of this competition is the International Automobile Federation (FIA). But let's talk now about the beginnings of this championship whose history goes back to the 1950s.

The Formula 1 World Championship was inaugurated in 1950 with the aim of unifying several National Motorsports Grand Prix. At that time a scoring system was established and it was decided which races would be part of this competition. In this first edition some of the teams that participated were Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Maserati. The Italian Giuseppe Farina ended up as champion of this event, becoming the first driver to win the Formula 1 Championship. Since then, this sport has given us many other legends such as Fangio, Brabham, Stewart, Nikki Lauda, Fittipaldi, Prost, Senna, Schumacher and Vettel.

Pilots and teams for the 2019 season

In the 2019 season, 10 teams are participating - just like the previous year - with two riders in each. In total, the Formula 1 grid has 20 drivers, four of whom savoured the honey of absolute triumph: Lewis Hamilton (four world titles), Sebastian Vettel (four F1 world titles), Fernando Alonso (two-time champion 2005 and 2006) and Kimi Raikkonen (a win obtained in 2007).

Football Teams

The 10 teams present great contrasts between them in terms of performance, reliability and engine power. Nor do all the teams seek the same objectives. More modest teams such as Haas or Sauber are looking to improve their results in the pre-season. Toro Rosso, Renault or Force India intend to finish in the top ten. Ferrari and Red Bull aspire to have a regular presence on the podium, while Mercedes AMS Petronas F1 aims to revalidate the double world crown: winning driver and constructors. Next we show you a list of teams and drivers present in the 2019 season of F1.

Online betting on F1

While the drivers are playing for their future on circuits at full speed, you can bet on potential winning drivers at the main sports bookmakers: who will be the winner of the Grand Prix? And the World Champion?

F1 bets are weekly or fortnightly bets on who will win a specific race, who will win the F1 World Championship or which team will win (Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, McLaren...). The race bet is simpler because it focuses on a specific Grand Prix and it is easier to choose the "winning horse": the characteristics of the driving, the circuit, if the car is reliable, the evolution of the season. Both the Championship of Drivers and Builders are more complex as it is an accumulation of points during a season. There are betting houses that offer the possibility of betting on the podium, the Top5/Top 10 of the World Championship, who gets the pole or the fast lap in the race. Yes there are opportunities, but you have to have knowledge and follow the course of the season to have more chances to win.
